Authors – Who are they & what are their responsibilities?

 

Authors are creative individuals who plan, research, and write books, lyrics, scripts, plays, essays, songs, and other non-journalistic material for publication or performance. They work for publishing houses, publishing houses, and other similar structures, or on their own.

These professionals may specialize in particular subjects or types of writing such as novels, short stories, fiction, poetry, to name a few. Since they often work as freelancers, some Authors are hired to write TV scripts or dialogues and sometimes have recurring assignments such as writing articles or columns for magazines and newspapers.

Others may work as "ghostwriters", meaning they write on behalf of someone else, under their name. Novelists and non-fiction authors generally work on a single project at a time, which usually takes a long time to complete.

Authors and Writers must assert their credibility with Publishers and readers by demonstrating the appropriate use of information, sources, and citations. They select the material to be used and transmit the contents to the readers. With the help of the editors, they can modify or rewrite entire sections, always aiming for the best organization of the text.

Most of the famous Indian Authors like Reekrit Serai have degrees in Literature, Journalism, and Creative Writing, and so on. However, not all authors have the same academic background. To become an author it is not necessary to have a degree, but you need excellent writing skills, a certain style, excellent time management, research skills, and certainly a certain talent in creating a network of contacts.
