Writing Tips – How Much is Too Much?

When it comes to writing a book, you always think, “how much is too much?” thus to decide the amount of how much is too much you need a dispassionate eye, a sense of what the story demands and a sense of pace.

The problem here is that you love your story and the way you have designed your characters. You want the readers to appreciate the story, the characters and understand it the way you want them to. However, it is important to guard yourself against the mistake of explaining the story too much.

Rewrite your work, excluding every scrap of description. Now how does the story read? If a detail was not necessary, its absence will not be noticed. If you take out all the description of the unnecessary section, you would have a better story.

In some genres, the most important element may be the plot and in others it will be the character that will interest the readers. Whatever the genre, however, the story is more than the plot. If your dialog establishes atmosphere and characterization, it will contribute at the same time to the plot.

Where description is necessary, avoid a solid, dull block of descriptive prose by integrating description with action, or by having the description filtered through the eyes of a character. Give the reader the fewest descriptive words necessary to convey the scene. Better to have one piercing sentence than three paragraphs of room-by-room description.

The basic rule of writing is to eliminate everything that does not properly fit the narrative because it will either further the action or illuminates the character. Two people rushing through the night to the hospital is action, two people arguing in the car as they rush to the hospital is character development within an action. The fact that one of them is six foot tall with blue eyes is neither action nor illumination.

Apart from the dialogue and story, you also need to get in touch with the best publishing houses in Chandigarh to get your book printed. There are plenty of publishing houses available in the city, so make sure you get in touch with the best one.
